Candidates seeking the Airplane Instrument Rating must have logged:

  • 50 hrs of Cross Country Flight
  • 40 hrs of actual or simulated instrument flight time (15 hrs must be with a CFII)
  • A flight of at least 250 nm along airways with 3 different approaches conducted under Instrument Flight Rules.  
  • 3 hrs of Test Prep within two calendar months of the Practical Test.
